Electric Boilers: Benefits, Emissions and UK Heating Standards

Choosing a heating system involves considering your property’s heat loss, electrical supply, hot-water needs, running costs and environmental impact. Daxom electric boilers provide central heating and, depending on the model, domestic hot water without burning gas or oil at the property.

What are the environmental benefits?

Electric boilers produce no direct carbon dioxide emissions at the point of use because they do not burn fuel in the home. However, electricity generation and supply can still be associated with greenhouse-gas emissions. The overall carbon footprint depends on how the electricity is generated and how much energy the property uses. An electric boiler should not be described as completely zero-emission or carbon-free.

Electric resistance boilers convert nearly all the electrical energy they consume into heat at the appliance. This does not mean that heating costs are necessarily low: electricity tariffs, insulation, heat loss and usage all affect running costs. Heat pumps can deliver more heat per unit of electricity and may be more economical in suitable properties.

Are gas boilers banned in new homes?

There is no blanket ban on existing domestic gas boilers from 2025. In England, the Future Homes and Buildings Standards were published in March 2026. The updated standards are scheduled to take effect from 24 March 2027, with transitional arrangements. They require new homes to meet stronger energy-efficiency and low-carbon heating standards; gas boilers will not meet the required performance standard for new homes covered by the rules. Requirements and dates can differ elsewhere in the UK.

For official information, see the UK Government’s Future Homes and Buildings Standards.

Why consider a Daxom electric boiler?

  • No on-site combustion, gas flue or combustion-related carbon monoxide emissions from the boiler.
  • Electric central heating compatible with appropriately designed radiator or underfloor-heating systems.
  • Compact wall-mounted and floor-standing options, including models with integrated hot-water cylinders.
  • Digital temperature controls and selectable heating power settings on supported models.

Important: Electric boiler suitability depends on a professional heat-loss assessment, available electrical capacity and domestic hot-water requirements. Installation costs and running costs vary. A qualified installer and electrician should check the property before purchase.
